Label TextStruck to commemorate George III's Accession to the British throne, this medal parallels one of the two worn by Cunne Shote in Francis Parson's 1762 portrait of the famous Native American. Cunne Shote, or Cummacatogue, was one of the three Cherokees escorted to London in 1762 by Henry Timberlake, where he likely received a number of medals as gifts.See Colonial Williamsburg accession number 2002-10 for a print done after the Parson's portrait in which this medal is also visible.
