DescriptionMan's knee breeches of voided cut velvet, woven in yellow, cream, orange-red and green stripe. Breeches made with wide waistband, buttoning at center front with three thread buttons 1 1/4" diameter. Center front buttoned opening (no fall front covering) buttoned with two smaller thread buttons from a separate extension placket. Deep tabby linen pockets at sides fastened with a single buttoned flap at either side, set forward 1 1/4" from side seams. Welt watch pocket set into right of band. Legs ending just below knees, with self fabric knee bands 1 1/4" wide, extending for a buckle (missing) and buttoned at the side of leg with 6 thread buttons. Curved extension behind buckle to protect stockings from abrasion. Back slightly gathered into waistband, with center back vent and four eyelets for size adjustment. Waistband has extensions at back indicating enlargement.Construction History:
