DescriptionMan's or boy's knee breeches made of plain-woven yellowish color cotton, probably Nankeen cotton from China. Waistband with two self-fabric covered buttons, 7/8" diameter, at center front. Wide fall-front flaps buttoned with 1/2" buttons over linen pockets beneath. Back waistband has vent and two pairs of eyelets for adjustment ties. Knee length, fastened with four half-inch buttons and knee bands intended for buckles. Back has full seat gathered to waistband. Breeches are unlined, except for brown linens facing the fall, waistband and knee bands. Center back seam overlaid with linen strip applied over seam on back.ProvenanceSaid to have descended in Philadelphia area, possibly from a Quaker family.
