DescriptionWomen's hoops of glazed linen with linen tape drawstring and split cane boning. Construction Details: Coarse linen casing that contains two pieces of stacked caning that are then divided wth spaced back stitch. Stitches were added between the two pieces to keep them stacked. The caning was then covered in the glazed linen, which was secured on top of the hoop with a whip stitch. A channel was added at the top of the glazed linen using a spaced backstitch; the bottom of the channel was left unfinished on the underside. Openings for accessing pockets are included on either side of the hoops. The edges of these openings are finished. Glazed linen covers this section of the boning, possibly for extra protection and reinforcement. One piece of linen tape is used in the drawstring channel and is sewn down in the back using a spaced backstitch. This prevents the tape from being adjusted in the back, where the boning comes to a point.
