DescriptionPosset pot and cover: small cylindrical pot with tubular spout and two looped scroll handles. Domed cover with wide flange and knop finial. Blue tin glaze decorated predominantly in blue with an oriental design of a squatting Chinese figure in a rocky landscape; dashes on spout and handles. Outlining in manganese.Label TextThis small posset pot, one of a pair, was probably intended for a single serving and is not a child's feeding cup as has often been suggested. The decoration and variations of it appear on plates and other forms in delft dating from the last three decades of the seventeenth century. Four privately owned cylindrical full-size posset pots, two of which are decorated in this pattern, are dated either 1674 or 1676. The London attribution is based on the color of the glaze and the decoration.
