DescriptionThe lower margin reads: "FEBRUARY./ FEVRIER./ R. Dighton del./ Printed for & Sold by Carington Bowles,/ N.o 69 in S.t Pauls Church Yard, London./ Published as the Act directs, 527"Label TextThis print, representing the month of February, is part of a set of twelve prints representing the months of the year. Themed sets, such as this were popular throughout the eighteenth-century in England and America. A fashionably dressed young woman sits in front of a fireplace playing an English guitar. Through a window behind her, farmers are plowing a field in a wintery landscape. The room suggests an elegant interior with a marble fire surround, mantel, frieze, grate, and screen all in the latest neoclassical taste. A tassled pull hangs down on the right side of the fireplace, suggesting a bell for servants.
