DescriptionThe lower margin reads: "APRIL./ AVRIL./ R. Dighton del./ Printed for & Sold by Carington Bowles,/ N.o 69 in S.t Pauls Church Yard, London./ Published as the Act directs,/ 529"Label TextThis print, representing the month of April, is part of a set of twelve prints representing the months of the year. Themed sets, such as this were popular throughout the eighteenth-century in England and America. Unlike the prints in this set for the first three months of the year, the subject of the print is able to venture outside to enjoy the pleasant weather. The elegantly attired young woman stands in a garden, admiring flowers blooming in a pot. A swan fountain and grove of trees can be seen behind her. She carries a folded umbrella as the sky is clouded over suggesting the possibility of rain.
