Themed sets, such as this were popular throughout the eighteenth-century in England and America. A well-dressed woman sits on a bench in a large garden. Behind her are several garden follies including an urn, a circular temple and in the other direction an obelisk. The young lady has an umbrella open to shade her from the sun, and carries an open fan suggesting the warmth of the day.
