DescriptionRectangular wooden trunk covered wtih black painted leather, with iron lock, lock-plate and hinges, and brass tacks; lid has brass bail handle in center of top and is outlined with brass tacks on top, front and sides, with tacks forming a decorative diamond motif in the corners; replacement hinges are concealed beneath the leather, with fastening nails visible on outside; trunk body front and top edges are outlined with brass tacks, with identical motif appearing at lower left and right corners of trunk body as appears on trunk lid; front of trunk body shows evidence of having the initials "T" (or "I") "C" at one time; bottom of trunk was covered with patterned paper at one time; trunk lid and body are lined with red and blue marbled paepr on all interior surfaces; label of "Gladman & Randall/Trunk & Plate Case Makers..." is pasted on inside of trunk lid; replaced cord nailed on proper right side on inside of case and lid.MarkingsPaper trade label inside lid: "Gladman & Randall/ TRUNK & PLATE CASE MAKERS,/ No. 55/ the Corner of Talbot Court,/Grace Church Street,/ London./ Make & Sell all Sorts of Hair & Black Leather/ Trunks, Hair & Gilt Leather Nests of Trunks/ for EXPORTATION./ With an Assortment of all Kinds of/ Travelling and Campaign Trunks, both/ Hair, and Leather; such as Post Chaises/Portmanteaus, Flat, and Spanish, Sumplers/ and Cases for Plate, China and Glass./ Likewise all Sorts of Leather Ware, Straps,/ Solid Leather Portmanteaus, Cloakbags,/ Villeases, Fire & Coal Buckets, Harvest/ Bottles, and Bottling Machines,/ Wholesale & Retail, at the most reasonable Rates/ RANDALL, UNDERTAKER" " is pasted on inside of trunk lid
