DescriptionThis rectangular fragment of fawn satin has a design of large, light green feathery leaves three times across the width. Each leaf is patterned with lines and dashes with berries along the stem. In between the leaves are smaller cabbage roses. The design at the bottom five inches is dark green rather than light green. The bottom edge is machine hemmed. The top edge is pressed back and whip stitched. The left and right edges are selvedges. From the outside in, the selvedge consists of four white warps of plain weave, five warps of pink satin, four warps of white satin, and 6 warps of pink satin.Label TextThis fabric comes from the collection of the decorating firm of Lenygon & Morant. The firm collected antique textiles to adapt and reproduce, but they also produced contemporary styles, such as this one.
MarkingsStamped in purple on the reverse in each corner, “MORANT & CO./INTERIOR DECORATORS/TO HIS MAJESTY” in an oval, and “NOT FOR SALE.”
ProvenanceThis is one of a large collection of "decorator samples" from the firm of MORANT & COMPANY, obtained by Morant & Co., 91 New Bond Street, London, before 1930. The firm, later known as LENYGON & MORANT, was transferred to New York about 1930.
