DescriptionThis is a rectangular fragment of a white corded quilt. The design consists of scrolling feathers or plume-like leaves enclosing exotic flowers and scrolling vines. French knots further embellish the surface, evenly spaced singly and in groups of three. The border extending along the long edge includes a parrot bird along with scrolling flowers. The quilting is worked with linen backstitches, about 30 per inch, through a white plain-woven face fabric of cotton spun with a small amount of linen and a backing fabric of plain-woven linen; the cording is white cotton. Raw edges are turned under and finished with later narrow tape.ProvenanceEx coll: Tomlinson and Mrs. Dewitt Clinton Cohen.
