DescriptionWoman's cap of white eyelet embroidery and starched and pleated bobbin lace in two different widths. Cutwork or eyelet embroidery consists of two different floral patterns, pieced together to form the main part of the cap. Back of the cap is made from a vertically gathered inset piece of white textile and is trimmed on three sides by tightly pleated and starched lace measuring 1 3/4" wide. Lace measuring 2 1/2 inches wide trims the outside edges of the entire cap; it is pleated at the sides, but not at the top or at the back. Two loops on the inside probably served to fasten ties to keep the cap in place on the head. No lining.ProvenanceFrom "Mrs. DeWitt C. Cohen Estate, 31 May 52"; " from Ginsburg & Levy".
