DescriptionRectangular box with hinged domed lid covered with tooled leather; iron handle on center of lid; iron lock and hasp on front of box and lid; leather ornamented with geometric, foliate borders; front has two rosettes flanking lock; top has four rosettes, one in each corner, with four compass star motifs creating diamond shape around central iron handle; interior lined with uncut printed book paper printed over text (Mr. Rollins, THE ROMAN HISTORY FROM THE FOUNDATIONS OF ROME TO THE BATTLE OF ACTIUM, vol. V, 3rd ed. (London: printed for J. Rivington..., 1768) with foliate designs; two-tone (lighter in center) cloth tape nailed to inside of case and lid side on proper right end; lathe nailed to underside of box along front and back.
