DescriptionRectangular box with hinged domed lid, covered in hair with strips of leather and brass tacks outlining edges and dividing lid and facade into three sections; brass bail and rosette handle in center of lid; brass rococo escutcheon and hasp on front, center of box; interior of box covered in uncut printed book pages (a legal text) with red and blue dots; textile tape nailed to inside of proper right end of box lid and case (broken); deal lathe nailed along front and back of bottom; initials in ink on bottom: "SGT"MarkingsInitials on bottom "SGT" (for St. George Tucker).
ProvenanceDescended in Tucker family at St. George Tucker House, Williamsburg, Virginia. Initialed "SGT" on bottom for St. George Tucker.
