DescriptionA soup plate decorated in opaque enamels and gilt. The asymmetrical motif features two 'auspicious' crabs and a cash coin in the cavetto with peonies, bamboo, and small pine branches arcing the 1 1/4 inch rim and the well on three sides.Label TextFragments of a soup plate decorated with the same opaque enamel crab motif were recovered from a rat's nest within a wall at Stratford Hall, the Virginia home of the Lee family.
