DescriptionSleeved waistcoat of heavy cream linen and cotton embroidered in colored wool, straight in front, functional pockets 12" from bottom of coat. Ten buttons worked in green wool and ten worked buttonholes ending opposite pockets. Long fitted sleeves with 2" wide embroidered band used as buttoned cuff. Crewel embroidery of natural size flowers worked in reds, blues, yellows, etc. Design entirely covers front of coat, used on pocket flaps, and round back of neck and on the tails. A trellis pattern of small flowers and stems ascends each front in curving line ending at side of collar. Back seamed in center, but cut in one piece with coat tails. Center back vent. Lined with linen, pieced up. Waistcoat is made from a bed counterpane, cut up and made up in the nineteenth century following a 1730-1750 style.Construction History:
