DescriptionCup: handless teacup with short foot ring; decorated in blue and red (traces of gilding) on the front with an ermine mantled shield enclosing a floral sprig and opposite a single flower sprig; the exterior rim painted with a border of overglaze blue four-dot clusters; the interior rim painted with a band of overglaze blue; the well of the cup painted with a single flower sprig. Saucer: deep circular saucer with foot ring; the interior painted ensuite with the cup with a blue band at the rim and a chain of four-dot clusters at the well encircling an ermine mantled shield containing a flower sprig.
ProvenanceDescended in the Tucker families of New York and Bermuda. Passed down to Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28, 1879-August 22, 1970] of Paget, Bermuda, who gifted the piece to her nephew, Edward Bolton (Teddy) Tucker, MBE [May 8, 1929-June 9, 2014]; it then descended to his daughter Wendy Susan Tucker who subsequently gifted it to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in 2024.
