DescriptionShallow thickly potted round bowl with high foot ring, broad flat rim, and octagonal edge. Bluish tin glaze decorated in blue on the interior: Chinese petal-shaped panels of a lotus and scroll motif with a single lotus blossom in reserve in the center; a braided band inside the rim.Label TextA basin of this form in the Bristol Museum is decorated with a blueground pattern like that on CWF accession 1956-314, a pot attributed to London. The lotus decoration, which is a pure oriental design, appears on delft produced at London, Liverpool, and Dublin. Fragments with the lotus pattern have been excavated in London at Vauxhall, but not with enough of the pattern to determine to which type it belongs. A small shard decorated with the pattern was excavated in Williamsburg at Wetherburn's Tavern (9NA.1524).
