DescriptionSleeveless and collarless waistcoat of medium brown ribbed tabby silk. Waistcoat is fastened with 12 buttonholes and replaced buttons. Cut away at lower fronts with vents at side and back. Two functional pockets with shaped flaps, top-stitched with brown silk thread. Waistcoat is lined with white plain-woven linen to the waistline, faced with self-fabric at lower fronts; back is unlined below waist. Waistcoat is interlined at front edges with tabby woven linen. ProvenanceBelieved to have been worn by Judge John Blair, 1732-1800. Note found in right pocket reads, "Short-clothes/ belonging to/ Thomas Hamilton Henderson,/ Grand son of/ Judge John Blair./ Born 1798-Died 1814./ Presented by Mrs. W.B. Robertson."
