DescriptionBasket of rectangular shape with, originally, one handle at each end, fit into the top rim. Consistently sized splints overall, except for one horizontal band of narrower splints beneath top edge. This band and the rim are decorated with small dots of dark brown paint; the lower, broader splints are stamp-decorated, each row, with two alternating designs in dark brown and pink paint.Artist unidentified.
Label TextBased on style and construction and decoration techniques, the basket's maker is thought to have been a Native American, probably a Mohegan or Pequot working in the vicinity of New London, Connecticut.
