DescriptionBasket with bail (fixed) handle over top. Square form at bottom swells to a circular rim; one-piece handle is notched at sides to fit snugly beneath upper rim. Splints are of fairly uniform width, except at bottom where three wefts of very narrow splints appear. Wide wefts are painted dark blue; every third warp is painted red. (At one corner, two red splints are separated by three, rather than two, unpainted splints).Artist unidentified.
Label TextThe maker of this basket is believed to have been a Native American, probably a Pequot working in Connecticut in the Ledyard-Groton vicinity.
