DescriptionChild's coat of white wool, inner lined with batting and lined with silk and cotton. The pointed collar is trimmed with a band of blue silk shagg, terminating at center back with a tassle. The coat is cut in a full tent shape, with wide pagoda sleeves.ProvenanceDescended in family of Robert Francis Travis Cole and Elizabeth Labby Cole. Family tradition stated that the clothing was worn by Catharine Boush Cole of Williamsburg, Virginia (1843-1846). However, the style of the coat relates more closely to 1860. The coat may have been worn by another daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Cole, either Elizabeth Wilmer Cole, 1858-1860, or Virginia Travis Cole, 1860-1867.
