DescriptionUnmade waistcoat of cream silk satin, with green striped selvages, embroidered with multicolor floss silks. Includes panels to construct a short, double-breasted waistcoat; collar, center front, with two pockets, and twenty-six fabric covered buttons. The pockets are attached using running stitches.The center front panel includes a pastoral scene of a man in a brown jacket, blue breeches, and a hat presenting a bird's nest to a woman in an orange jacket, pink petticoat, neck handkerchief, and straw hat. Straight pocket flaps have design of flowers springing from grassy ground. Body of waistcoat has isolated floral sprigs. The panels are also decorated with an embroidered trim of dark pink silk thread. Stitches are satin, French knots, and outline. The top and bottom of the silk is hemmed.MarkingsPaper tag sewn to waistcoat indicates it once was in an exhibit: "No 16 Loaned by Miss Cropper of Washington"
